Our strengths Employability and our links with industry GCU strives to ensure its programmes give students the skills required in the global workplace, for example 55% of our undergraduate programmes offer opportunities for hands-on work experience. The University develops its programmes to meet the evolving needs of business and industry and many of GCU’s programmes are accredited by industry bodies or created in partnership with professional organisations. For example, GCU was the first Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment Centre of Excellence specialising in financial services operations. Our programmes are supported by major global brands including Santander and M&S. Our focus on employability means 96% of GCU’s graduates are in employment or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2016). Research The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), which assesses the quality of research across UK universities, judged GCU to be the top modern Scottish university by research power; 89% of the University’s research activity in allied health professions is ranked in the highest categories of world-leading and internationally-excellent. In fact, GCU 08 is ranked in the top 20 in the UK for both allied health research and built environment research. Global partnerships As well as being home to almost 2,000 international students from 100 countries, GCU has campuses in London and New York and partnerships with leading institutions around the world including in: China, India, North America, South America, Oman and Bangladesh. GCU is also a member of the prestigious international Santander Universities network, which brings together 1,000 universities. These partnerships offer GCU students and staff opportunities to enrich their experience as well as share research and develop innovative joint programmes. Recently, GCU has been designated a Changemaker Campus by Ashoka U, a global network of universities and colleges, and is one of only 30 in the world and the first in Scotland. This is a reflection of the University’s global leadership in promoting social innovation in its teaching and research.
