The judges’ TOP TEN Of the 46 whiskies blind tasted by our experts,10 drams stood head and shoulders above the rest THE JUDGES’ TOP TEN 2016 Judges Darren Leitch, National Retail Manager, The Whisky Shop Darren has been involved with the Scottish Field Whisky Challenge since its second year in 2001 and has always championed it as the ultimate whisky competition. Charles Maclean, Whisky Consultant Charles was elected Master of the Quaich in 2009 and in 2012 won the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ at the International Wines & Spirits Competition. He has been a Scottish Field Whisky Challenge judge for 11 years. Vicky Keough, Manager, The Whisky Shop Dufftown Vicky has been the manager of The Whisky Shop Dufftown for over fi ve years, regularly holding tastings for customers. Vicky joins The Scottish Field Whisky Challenge as a judge for the fi rst time this year. Robin Russell, Proprietor, Robbie’s Drams Robin has spent his entire working life in the licensed trade and was one of the fi rst people in the country to launch a whisky festival – the annual Whisky An’A’ That festival in Ayr. Ewan McIlwraith, Manager, Robertsons of Pitlochry Ewan took over the running of Robertsons of Pitlochry in 2013. As a family-run business, his focus is always on customer service and is always willing to spend time talking to them and letting them sample some of the many whiskies open for tasting. Mark Angus, Retail UK Sales Manager, Gordon & MacPhail This year’s Challenge is Mark’s fourth – he says that the most exciting part of the event is not knowing what fl avours you are about to sample. Mark is the Retail Sales Manager for Gordon & MacPhail, which has been awarded fi ve-stars by VisitScotland, and is a director of the Speyside Whisky Festival. Douglas Wood, Owner, Woodwinters Wines and Whiskies Owner of the award-winning wine and whisky retailer and wholesaler Woodwinters Wines and Whiskies, based in Stirling with retail in Bridge of Allan and Edinburgh, Douglas was a senior judge at the International Wine Challenge. Shane Goodbody, Director, The Good Spirits Company Shane is the co-founder and director of The Good Spirits Company, a specialist whisky shop established in Glasgow in 2011.
