Virtual tour of
WW2 Glasgow
and flm screening

WHAT:Wartime Glasgow virtual tour and flm screening.
Starting at the Mitchell Library and ending at Glasgow
Green, a virtual tour of Glasgow in wartime (1939 – 1945).
Based on Doors Open Day walks he ran in 2018 and 2019,
PhD Student, Kevin Morrison shared with the audience
what he had uncovered about Glasgow’s buildings,
open spaces and networks and the stories of people who
experienced Glasgow’s darkest hour. The talk was following by
a screening of B.H.Humble’s 1942 silent flm of Glasgow’s Civil
Defence organisations introduced by the Moving
Archives Scotland.
WHERE & WHEN:26th September 2019 at Glasgow
Caledonian University.WHY: To mark the eightieth anniversary of the outbreak
of WWII in September 2020 and share GCU research
relating to Glasgow’s story during Wartime.
WHO: Glasgow School for Business and Society,
Social Sciences, National Library of Scotland (NLS) Moving
Image Archive and GCU Archives, GCU Lecturer, PhD Student,
CPE Coordinator and members of staf from NLS, GCU Archivist
to put the exhibition together and six Student Mentors to make
visitors feel welcome and show them round campus.OUTPUTS: 50 participants attended the event which also
involved a GCU Archives Home Front display created to time
with the 80th anniversary of the start of WWII which GCU
History students were able to visit too.
