CPE Impact Goals
The overall aim of GCU’s strategic
approach to Community and Public
Engagement is: To create the
evidenced-based conditions
for meaningful and sustainable
engagement for The Common Good.
This aim is operationalised through
the following fve impact goals:
1.Engaged Culture:
CPE work is valued, supported and
embedded across all aspects of GCU’s
strategic portfolio, staf group and
activity in line with our mission as
a University for The Common Good.
2.Community Engaged Learning:
Bringing CPE within the GCU
curriculum to enhance learning and
teaching and volunteering in line with
our commitment as an Ashoka U
change-maker institution.
3.Engaged Research:
Co-created and meaningful public
engagement with research examples
throughout the institution in line with
our commitment to the UN Sustainable
Development Goals.
4.Sustainable Engagement:
Sustainable, reciprocal and equitable
partnerships with community
organisations in Glasgow in line
with our Civic University Agreement.
Partnership model shape the
activities we deliver.
5.Visible Engagement:
Connections and communications
that contribute to GCU being
recognised nationally and
internationally as a centre for
innovation and excellence and
creativity in CPE.CPE Activities
Each CPE project fts with one or
more of the fve impact goals. In
development, we take account of
the inputs previously outlined and
in planning them with partners,
we consider the what (description
of activity), where (location),
when (dates), why (need identifed
and aims), who (people involved
and target audience) and how
(method of engagement).
Outputs are recorded (tangible
activities), outcomes are measured
(changes as a result of the activity and
others sources of evidence) and the
activity is mapped to the Sustainable
Development Goal (SDG) the
activity is contributing to at a local
level. The case studies in the
following pages are set out in line
with this planning process.
“The Archive Centre team all enjoy the close contact we have with CPE and are always delighted when Susan
brings us in on a project. Introducing us to her internal and external contacts fts perfectly with our ethos of
opening up the resources we have in the Archive Centre to all. From talks, exhibitions and academic classes
Susan has fully grasped how original historical material can bring a diferent element to CPE and a new
audience to ours. This year we have used a variety of collections including Scottish CND, Oscar Marzaroli,
WWII and Heatherbank Social Work resources to engage and inform audiences. This is a successful and
inspiring close working relationship – long may it last.”
