What is your
path to GCU?
We believe that education is for everyone; there is more than one path to GCU. Find out
more about the variety of routes you may take to gain your undergraduate degree.
Foundation Apprenticeships
If your Foundation Apprenticeship is in a relevant
discipline, it will take the place of one SQA Higher
qualification for our standard entry requirements and will
be treated as equivalent to a B grade at Higher, though it
does not replace an essential subject.

Direct entry from college
Many Higher National Certificates (HNCs) and Higher
National Diplomas (HNDs), which are qualifications taken
in college, allow you to enter directly into year two or three
of a University degree. Visit: gcu.ac.uk/collegeconnect
College Pathways
You may also choose to enrol at GCU as a College Pathway
student. Study an HND at college as a GCU student
and - after successful completion of the HND - you can
enter directly into year three of the degree course.

Modern Apprenticeships exist at many levels.
If you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship
at SCQF level 6 in a relevant discipline this would
be equivalent to two Highers at B.

English language courses
for international students
If you are a student who does not meet the minimum
English language requirements for direct entry to your
chosen degree, you can complete one of our online
pre-sessional English language courses.
Taking a gap year
You may be able to secure your place a year in
advance and defer entry while using your gap
year to study or gain experience. Not all courses
offer deferred entry so talk to our admissions
advisors in advance.

Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL)
GCU’s flexible entry policies exist to allow
relevant work experience and prior learning
to be considered towards standard entry or
advanced entry into a course. If you have
three to five years of relevant work experience,
you can apply for the degree that interests you
and get in touch with our admissions team
about your application and your eligibility
for RPL.
