With so many lovely story books out there today the choices are endless for a good bed time story. Often parents ask what books are popular with the children at nursery, and one particular favourite is Room on the Broom. Room on the Broom is a fantastic story written by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. The book is brightly illustrated and follows the journey of a witch who meets different animals on her journey. It uses humour, rhythm and rhyme to keep children engaged. This colourful book encourages children to familiarise themselves with a variety of vocabulary making it suitable for children from 2 years and up. The story encourages children to find different animals throughout the book, providing opportunities to name the animals and explore the different sounds they make. For older children, the book can help to develop their language and communication skills as it can lead to discussions about the different environments that the animals live in. Room on the Broom has many repetative phrases, encouraging children to join in with the story. The book also teaches children the importance of friendships and sharing, as the witch makes friends with the animals and shares her broomstick.
