UK CONCRETE SHOW - show awards 2019
THE INDUSTRY SHOW AWARDS 2019
The 2019 saw a welcome return of the #UKCS SHOW AWARDS and the entries were,
as ever, of a very high standard making the judges decision a difficult one.
It seems a cliched statement but in this case it’s
perfectly true - it really was a very difficult choice for
the judges to make in deciding the winners of the Best
New Product and Best Product in Show.
The awards were brought back to the show in 2019 by
popular demand and judging by the number of entries,
this is a feature of the show that should never have been
allowed to fall by the wayside but now they’re back for
Thw winners of this years awards that were presented
after the close of the show on day 1 were COMMAND
ALKON with COMMANDBatch, (see pages 18 to 21) for the
Best Product in Show and HYMIX for their Safety Truck, a
series of design innovations (see pages 10 to 16).
Entries from B&B Attachments, Towergate Insurance and
Simply Precast were highly commended by the judges as
Steven Callaghan, chairman of the judging panel,
“It’s very nice to get the variation in product type that we
got in the applications this year and we thought that the
Towergate Insurance TOOLBOX was
particularly clever (see ad facing) but in the final
analysis, the sheer level of investment, in both both
engineering and design from HYMIX in creating their
“Safety Truck” was impressive and hard to go against,
hence our unanimous decision to award the Best New
Product in Show” to Nick Humpish and his team.
The CONCRETE Times asked Steven if perhaps some
people may have found the decision to award a software
product the Best Product in Show Award possibly a little
“I really wouldn’t understand why”, he retorts.
“Computers play an increasingly central role in all of our
lives now and I suspect many people in the industry are
surprised to find out how important computer software
has become, not just in the form of BIM which is pretty
well known these days but also in producing a cube of
“There is no doubt his influence is set to grow
exponentially over the coming years - for example, the
introduction of mix design software such as that offered
by show exhibitor Optimixt and new products in the
process of being launched now, such as COMMANDProbe
from Command Alkon.
“I am convinced that products such as these will play
a central role in improving the quality and consistency
of concrete over the coming years and that we will see
increasing automation in concrete production” concludes
