LEISURE Monty Python gallops into the Corran Halls Monty Python’s Spamalot arrives in Oban from March 1-4, 2017 A.D.! Ellie Cooper previews this hilarious production from Spotlight Musical Theatre Group. Rude Frenchmen, can-can dancers, the Lady of the Lake and her Laker Girls, killer rabbits, a catapulting cow, and the somewhat odd Knights who say “Ni” are just part of the adventures and dangers awaiting King Arthur and his knights of the very, very, very round table in their quest for the Holy Grail. Lovingly ripped off from the motion picture, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is the fresh Broadway hit and irreverent parody of the Arthurian legend. With book and lyrics by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez & Eric Idle, this showstopper was nominated for 14 Tony Awards, winning three, including Best New Musical for 2005. This production is brought to you by the local team that brought you the sell-out production of Anything Goes at the Corran Halls in 2015. Kevin Baker returns as director and attempts to rein in this motley crew. When asked about his favourite part of this production so far he commented: ‘Since rehearsals started I have been given many tins of Spam and I have discovered I like Spam-a-lot … and so will you!’ Leading the quest is King Arthur (Roddy MacEachan) with his trusty servant Patsy (Stephen Day). Playing his gallant knights are Ian Henry as the homicidally brave Sir Lancelot; John Robinson as Sir Robin the Not- Quite-So-Braveas Sir-Lancelot; Richard Baker as the dashingly handsome Sir Galahad; Gordon Stewart as the strangely fl atulent Sir Bedevere and Aimie MacDonald as The Lady of the Lake. They meet some very peculiar characters along the way (which offers great opportunities for the rest of the talented cast to have fun playing multiple parts!). Tickets are available at the Corran Halls Box Offi ce on 01631 567333 or online at www.spotlightmtg.co.uk/ tickets WEST COAST REVIEW | 15
