april Gardening tips
April’s here and with clocks
springing forwards we are
now offi cially in British summertime!
With the warmer
weather and sunshine, gardens
are awakening to treat
us to a pretty display of spring
blooms and lawn growth. All
of a sudden there are plenty
of jobs to be getting on with.
We have put together a list
of April gardening tips.
Grass-cutting season is starting,
so ensure your lawnmower
and tools are fully serviced and
ready for action. Be sure to walk
the area to be cut beforehand
to check for stones and debris
to prevent damage to your
machinery and property. If the
weather is dry enough, this
is also a great time to scarify
your existing lawns to remove
moss and thatch to give it the
best possible start. If you plan
to create a new lawn or grass
area this is the ideal time. You
need dry weather to prepare
the ground for seed and turf,
but be prepared to hand water
and protect from late frost.
Dead-heading the early fl owers
that are fading will encourage
new growth. Remember with
daff odils, if you leave the foliage
in tacked they will produce an
even better display next year.
Prepare your fl ower beds for the
growing season by digging in
a layer of compost or manure,
also working with a general
purpose fertiliser will help boost
your blooms. Now is a great
time to plant summer bulbs
and start thinking about what
vegetables you wish to grow.
Hard landscaping – adding
paving, patios, outbuildings,
driveways and decking to your
garden can dramatically change
and improve your garden, this
is the ideal time to carry this
out so there will be a minimal
disturbance. We can source
the perfect materials for your
design from all over the globe
