Kilmelford Village Store
Running a small village shop is not an easy thing to do
these days, with online shopping and deliveries now available
it makes it challenging to compete and thrive. I took
on the task on keeping a shop and post office open in Kilmelford
in 2014, it hasn't been easy but it has been worth
We pride ourselves on stocking quality local products that
we source ourselves such as; venison, Murrays smoked
salmon, Loch Fyne ales etc along with everyday essentials.
The shop also incorporates a very busy post office with a
free ATM, the branch has been awarded a grant to update,
this will be a huge improvement which will benefit all.
In 2016 I decided that I needed to diversify, so I opened a
little café above the shop named Room at the Top. This has
proved a life line in keeping the shop open, after many trial
and error, and with mountains of hard work and swallowing
of pride, the café is doing well.
Our little café has been open since 2016. We serve a variety
of foods and drinks such as Thompsons of Glasgow coffee,
home baking, light lunches and local produce served.
You can order to sit in or to take out. All our food is prepared
and cooked on the premises, ranging from sandwiches to
paninis to burgers to chilli and lots more. We are a dog-
friendly cafe and can also cater to all dietary requirements.
We are a small friendly team so stop by for a nosey and a
chat – all welcome.
