This year’s Charities Day, in
June, was a great success
for all concerned, with even
the weather playing its part.
As well as the brilliant parade,
there were 42 stalls, which
gave local groups a great
opportunity to raise money
directly. We’re happy to report
that, between those taking
part, over £12,000 was
raised.
Everyone, from the pipe band
to the police and the council,
work together to make this
day work, and we want to say
thank you to everyone who
helped to make this a brilliant
day.
As Lions, we get a great deal
of pleasure in putting on this
event to help others raise
much needed funds for their
own causes. In addition, any
money made by ourselves
will fi nd its way back into the
community – which makes
this a good opportunity for me
to remind community groups
and good causes to get in
touch with us if you think you
might benefi t from our help in
some way.
If you are fortunate enough to
be reading this at the beginning
of August, you still have
time to be involved with the
Great Oban Raft Race on August
11. Read more about it
on The Big Event page in this
magazine.
Pipe band performance:
Those in Oban are in for a
treat on the fi rst Thursday of
each month throughout the
summer months (until September)
with the very popular
Evening in McCaig’s Tower.
This features the award-winning
Oban High School Pipe
Band and Highland dancers,
and it a great cultural show in
a spectacular setting. If you
have a guest house or hotel,
please do let you visitors
know about these events.
New Hope: As we are well
into the growing season,
please remember our appeal
on behalf of New Hope for any
of your home grown garden
produce that you can spare.
They can make very good
use or any fruit or vegetables
that are donated. A big thank
you to anyone who has already
made a donation – the
team have been thrilled with
the response, which lead to
a donation of rhubarb, which
was used to make a delicious
rhubarb crumble. To make a
home-grown donation, call at
the centre, at 2 Soroba Road,
at any time during opening
hours, or get in touch with
Hope Kitchen on Facebook.
