Oban Duck Race
Oban town
centre, July 31,

Organiser Iain MacIntyre
gets ready to make a
splash
What’s happening?
The duck race is a fundraiser
organised by the Rotary Club.
We have 500 plastic ducks
(numbered and divided into
four colour-coded groups)
which we sell ahead of the
race for £2 a duck.
The race starts at the Combie
Street bridge over the Black
Lynn Burn. The ducks are
encased in a big net with
feathers and dropped into the
burn, then chased down the
Burn by the welly-and-lifejacket
clad local Rotarians.
After fl owing down the burn,
the ducks eventually come
out into the sea at Oban Bay,
at the tunnel opposite the
Bank of Scotland. Here they
are fi shed out by a kayaker,
who calls out fi rst, second
and third places. Last year
we only lost two ducks out
of 500!
Who’s invited?
Everyone! This is a family
event and should be a great
spectacle. The route is from

the Black Lynn Bridge, down
Airds Crescent/Stevenson
Street, under the tunnel
opposite Jackson Butchers,
past the Perle Hotel, and into
the fi nal tunnel opposite the
Bank of Scotland, then out
into the sea. On the day there
will be banners, and marshals
to direct people and help
keep them safe.
Who benefi ts?
The money raised will support
local good causes, from
young carers, to the senior
citizens' Christmas lunch. The
event contributes to Oban’s
great summer calendar.
