Is there anything better
than walking through the
beautiful Knapdale woods
on a sunny day? We don’t
think so! The chatter of the
woodland birds, the array of
colourful wild fl owers, green
all around and the amazing
variety of patterns and textures
formed by mosses
and lichens on the trees and
forest fl oor.
Wildlife can show up in
the most surprising places.
If you’re travelling towards

Tayvallich, keep an eye on
the shoreline of Caol Scotnish,
where otters are regularly
seen. If you are visiting
beaches, go at low tide when
rock pools are full of life. If you
are in the woods, take time to
stand still, or sit, and listen.
How much wildlife can you
hear?
Why not try beaver spotting
on lochs Barnluasgan
and Coille-Bharr? The best
time to see them is very early
morning, or late evening.
You’ll need to stay quiet and
still. You may see the beavers’
heads sticking out of the
water while swimming leaving
a V shape wake behind it.
Listen, too, as they are noisy
