to keep them accessible for
all. We would like to support
the development of a countryside
woodworking programme
enabling volunteers
and participants to learn new
skills and continue to support
the woodland as a community
resource for all to enjoy.
Everyone benefi ts from access
to healthy woodlands.
The woodlands are a vital resource
for NHS staff, patients
and visitors as well as a plethora
of other users: dog walkers,
runners, cyclists, children,
nature lovers etc. Our
recent woodworking course
has been hugely popular and
we would like to see more folk
getting involved – not only to
learn new skills but then to be
able to use those skills to help
benefi t the woodland and all
its users.
Never have our green spaces
been under more pressure.
Never have they been so vital;
as a buffer to climate change,
as a place to relax and re-energise
away from the frenetic
world we live in and as a
haven for our amazing native
species – from red squirrels
and pine martens to lichens
and toadstools.
What are you looking
forward to in 2018?
Our new picnic area opens
in April. We have free basic
woodworking courses
starting May 15 and June
19 (running for fi ve consecutive
Tuesdays 10am to 3pm)
covering milling, joint making
and stool making, and a free
hands-on, 20-week horticulture
course (sponsored by the
Co-op local community fund)
running on Mondays, from
April 30.
How can readers get
involved?
