BUSINESS
Mayday Mayday Mayday
Every May, we call on
our supporters and the
public, to help raise
funds to kit our brave, volunteer
lifeboat crews as they
battle the very harshest conditions
at sea and save the
lives of people from across
the UK and Ireland.
Our volunteer lifeboat crews
provide a 24-hour rescue service
in the UK and Ireland, and
our seasonal lifeguards look
after people on busy beaches.
Our Flood Rescue Team helps
those affected by fl ooding.
RNLI crews and lifeguards
have saved over 142,200 lives
since 1824 but we’re more
than a rescue service. We infl uence,
supervise and educate
people too. Our Community
Safety teams explain the risks

and share safety knowledge
with anyone going out to sea
or to the coast. And our international
teams work with
like-minded organisations to
help tackle drowning in communities
at risk all around the
world.
The RNLI’s Mayday campaign
begins on Monday 1 May and
will run for the whole month,
with fundraising events taking
place across the UK and Ireland.
Money raised through Mayday
fundraising events will help
kit out RNLI lifeboat crews
so they’re ready to face the
harshest conditions at sea.
The RNLI operates over 230
lifeboat stations in the UK and
Ireland and has more than
220 lifeguard units on beach-
es around the UK. The RNLI
is independent of Coastguard
and government and depends
on voluntary donations and
legacies to maintain its rescue
service. Since the RNLI was
founded in 1824 its lifeboat
crews and lifeguards have
saved over 141,500 lives.
We’d love to have you on
board to support RNLI’s Mayday
campaign whether it’s
wearing your wellies to work
or school, putting on your own
event, displaying badges in
your local shop or spreading
the word for us, it all helps towards
saving lives at sea.
